Why We do What We Do at the Community Day Center

Filling a basic human need …

The Community Day Center of Waltham is a daytime shelter which opened in September 2003 to serve homeless and other adults in need. The project grew out of the realization that Waltham’s homeless population has no place to go during afternoon hours to escape the cold, the rain, or the heat. The Community Day Center now fills this most basic need for shelter every weekday afternoon, 1:30 until 4:30.

And then some …

Beyond just shelter, however, the Community Day Center provides guests with services and support to help stabilize and enhance their lives. We act as a referral agency to other local organizations that provide medical, spiritual, employment, housing, legal and counseling services, and we support guests as they go through those processes.

    Is this a solution?

Of course not; a shelter will not solve the root causes of homelessness. But, while other organizations are working to improve the social problems that cause homelessness, it is essential that every member of our society be cared for and given a chance to succeed.
